ICPM is excited to welcome Judy Payne and Susan Christoffersen as the new Academic Co-Directors of the ICPM-Rotman Pension Governance Education Program (PGEP), effective June 2024. Judy brings 25 years of working with pension boards, most recently as the Executive Director of BC Municipal Pension Board of Trustees, and previously in multiple roles with BC Pension Corporation. Susan, an ICPM Board member, is also the Dean of the Rotman School of Management in Toronto with years of academic and executive education experience. Together, they will enhance PGEP with their deep understanding of pension fund boards and their unique obligations.

PGEP is a unique international governance program designed for Board members and trustees of pension and other long-horizon investment institutions. The program, established in 2011, is organized jointly between ICPM and the Rotman Executive Programs at the University of Toronto.

Networking events, case studies, group discussions and team assignments ensure dynamic interactions among participants throughout the program, which foster global pension sector connections that remain long after the program.

Stay tuned for the updated 2024 agenda that will be shared soon. The program continues as a 3.5 day curriculum that blends academic rigor with an immersive experience where boards, trustees, and senior executives examine research and case studies with leading academics and receive mentorship from expert practitioners with international perspectives. Key topics include:

  • Good governance of pension organizations and investments
  • Boardroom dynamics
  • Responsible investment
  • Public and private investments
  • IT and cybersecurity risk
  • Effective member communications
  • Global challenges facing pensions
