ICPM Welcomes New Board Members
ICPM is pleased to welcome two new board members: León Fernández de Castro from AFP Habitat in Chile, and Geraldine Leegwater from PGGM in the Netherlands. León and Geraldine will begin their three-year terms on January 1, 2026.
“We are excited to start the new year with two incredible additions to the ICPM Board,” says Michelle Ostermann, ICPM Board Chair. “León and Geraldine bring key geographic representation from our network, and they also collectively bring decades of experience in the pension sector where their dedication to furthering the industry has been evident. This will be instrumental for implementing our strategic plan and pursuing our mission. The entire board is looking forward to starting 2026 with this strong footing.”
León Fernández de Castro has been the Planning and Development Officer of AFP Habitat, the largest pension fund in Chile, for the last 9 years. He is responsible for the company’s strategy, sustainability, public and political affairs, pension system education, and studies for pension reforms. In addition, he held the position of Chairman of the Board of AFP Colfondos for 4 years, a pension fund manager in Colombia that belongs to Habitat Group.
Geraldine Leegwater is currently the CEO of PGGM Investment Management, one of Europe’s largest pension funds in charge of the healthcare sector. Previously, Geraldine was Chief Investment Management and member of the Executive Committee of PGGM. Prior to this, Geraldine was Member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Investment Committee of ABP. Between 2004 and 2018, Geraldine was the first Chief Investment Officer of ABN AMRO Pensioenfonds and later their Chief Executive Officer. She also served as a member of the Supervisory Investment Committee of the Dutch Central Bank and was an academic director for the executive education on pension and investment management at the ESAA/Erasmus University.
A special thank you goes to outgoing board members: Thomas Lee (New York State Teachers’ Retirement System) and Jeroen de Munnik (PGGM, Netherlands). Tom and Jeroen have been dedicated and active board members for the past several years, both serving on numerous committees. Their contributions to ICPM have been instrumental in strengthening the network and setting ICPM in the right direction for its third decade as an organization. The impact of their work is felt not only by the network, but also by the broader pension community.
